Alliteration
A series of words with the same consonant or vowel sound
Anacoenosis
An appeal to ones listeners or opponents for their opinion or judgement to the subjects under discussion.
Anaphora
Figure of repetion that occurs when the first word or set of words in a sentence phrase or clause is repeated in the first word or set of words in successive sentences.

Apostrophe
The sign used in grammar to indicate possession, the sign to reduce letter whether it be unpronounced as in verse, or pronounced but abbreviated in writing (gov't). Assonance

Euphemism
The substitution of a phrase that is milder or less harsh "Plump" as opposed to "Fat"
Hyperbole
The deliberate exaggeration of a person, thing, quality or event: "This is so bad I could die with embarrassment."
Irony
The use of words to convey the opposite meaning. "We will now have a quiz" "Great."
Litotes
The expression of understatement used with a negative to express a positive. "That wasn't half bad"
Metaphor
A symbol or a figure of speech to represent something else "He is the apple of my eye" "The lord is my Shepard"
Metonym
A figure of speech that consists of the use of the name of one object of concept for that of another to which it is related "the bottle" for a strong drink "the devil" for evil", to pass go (to start over).
Onomatopoeia
Words that sound like what they mean: "plop" "yummy" "icky"
Oxymoron
a figure of speech that is produces a contradictory effect: "gotta be cruel to be kind" "Safe sex" agree to disagree, authentic replica.
Paronomasia
A pun "I've never tipped a cow, then again a cow has never served me food."
Personification
A figure of speech that represents inanimate objects or abstraction with human qualities.
Simile
An overt comparison between 2 dissimilar things using "Like" or "as a" as a bridges
Synedoche
A part is used for the whole. Bread means food or money "put bread on the table"
