Describe a trip that you have taken recently and explain why you liked it. Include specific examples and details in your explanations.
Just last week, my family and I went to Las Vegas on a family trip. We all had a very good time. I was especially surprised by all the free shows like pirate battles, lift-up fountains, and all different kinds of dancing. The casinos were hude and had so many different kinds of game tables, slot machines, and video porker machines. Also, the food was amazing in many aspects. First, it was very cheap. A buffet style meal that served steak and lobster was only $15. In addition, almost anywhere you went, the portions of the food were huge. I really enjoyed my time there and would like to go back someday.
Describe the most dangerous thing that you ever did and explain what happened as a result. Include specific examples and details in your explanation.
The most dangerous thing that I ever did was to jump out of an airplane. When my best friend asked me if I wanted to go watch him skydive, I thought it would be really fun to see him drop from an airplane. At first I was scared to death, since I have a streak of acrophobia. But once I jumped I experienced a feeling of floating. It is the most dangerous, but at the same time the most excitig experience I have ever had and it felt wonderful. It also helped me conquer my fear of heights and it is an activity that I engage in every chance that I get.
If you could make one change in the world today, what would it to be? Include details to support your answer.
If I could change one thing in the world today, I would stop poverty. In the world today, there are more people without food, water and clothing than ever before. There are more problems of the gap that`s growing between the rich and the poor than ever before. Many people die because they can`t afford mediacl treatment. Also, in poor regions, children can`t go to school because they have to work to help their families. It`s dangerous, too. One of the causes of the French Revolution was a lack of food for the common people. Rich people and rich countries have the power to change things, but they don`t use it. That`s why I would stop poverty.
Choose a house or an apartment where you want to live and explain why you would like to live there. Include specific examples and details in your explanation.
All my life, I`ve lived in a small tow-bedroom apartment with my parents and my younger brother, so I`ve never had my own room. Therefore, I`d like to live in a biog old house with many rooms, for example a living room, a big kitchen and a separate dining room, and maybe even a big sunny woom woth many plants --- I love plants. My ideal house would also have a big backyard and a beautiful view of some mountains and a lake. I prefer old house because I feel that modern homes are could and sterile, but older homes have lots of char, and character. I especially like old wooden house.
Imagine that you could dine with any famous person, living or dead. What kind of dinner would you have and what would you talk about? Include specific examples and details in your explanation.
If I could have dinner with any famous person, I would choose President Bush of the U.S.A. My friends might be shocked to hear me say that, because generally I disagree with many of his policies. I belive, however, that in his heart he`s got good intentions. Because I would want to discuss many things with him, and maybe try to persuade him to change his mind about the Iraq war and his environmental policies, I`d choose a simple restaurant like a steak house where we could relax and we wouldn`t be distracted by the food, which would happen, I think, if we went to an expensive sushi restaurant or some other fancy restaurant.
Some students value the skills of living that they learned from family and friends. Others put more emphasis on the lessons that were taught to them in school by their teachers. Which do you think is more important to you and why? Include details and examples to support your choice.
ver. A
Of course, I`ve learned many things in school that will be useful for me in my future career, but the things I`ve learned from the people in my life are far more important. My parents, for example, gave shown me that hard work and compromise are important for success and getting along with others. My best friend Marcia taught me that it`s OK for friends to disagree. She has always helped me recognize my faults as well as my assets. I think these things I`ve learned from family and friends will be useful not only at work, but also in marrige and in society.

ver. C
The lessons I learned when I was a child are much more important --- I think --- than the lessons I`ve learned in school. My parents taught me to be responsible for little things like clearning up after myself, helping with housework, being nice to my friends and the people aroud me, lending a helping hand to those who are in need, and telling the truth. These habits have shaped my personality and will stay with me for the rest of my life. I know that school is important, and I`ve learned many useful things in school, but I think our basic personalities are formed before we even start kindergarden.
Some colleges requires that students declare a major before they start their freshman year. Other colleges allow students to declare their majors up to the end of their freshman year. Which policy do you think is better for freshmen and why? Include details and examples in your explanation.
It sounds like a good idea not to have to choose a major, but I think that most freshmen have a pretty good idea of what they want to study. Maybe some political science majors will become business majors, and vice versa, but I think most peolpe will stick to their chosen majors. If we choose a major before first semester, we have the advantages of finding out right away if we don`t like that major, or having a head start in taking courses if we do like it. Therefore, I think choosing our majors before we start freshman year is better.
Some people prefer to live in small town. Others prefer to live in a big city. Which place would you prefer to live in? Use specific reasons and details to support your answer.
Having lived in both a small town and a large city, I can honestly say that I prefer the big city. Small town life is fun for a little while, but you soon realize that there is very little to do. In the big city, however, I can go to shopping, go and sing karaoke, or to go out
to a nice restaurant very easily. The public transportation is very good and it runs late just like the places of entertainment in the city, which are open late. City life is just to so much more exciting and that`s why I prefer living here to living in the country.
Some universities have a policy of pairing students with different personalities and backgrounds as freshman roommates. Other universities try to match students with similar personalities and backgrounds. Which policy do you think is better for freshmen and why? Include specific examples and details in your response.
An important part of the college experience is meeting and getting to know people who are different from us. I think that`s great. But when it comes to roommates, I thnk the most important thing is to have a roommate that`s easy to get along with --- that usually means someone with similar personality and background. There`s enough stress in freshman year --- I think we don`t need more stress in our own dorm rooms. In my case, I`m Japanese. Therefore, if I had a foreign roomamate rather than an American roommate, we could share our problems with cultural differences and share an outsider`s perspective on America and American people.
