Histology

The study of Tissues

Epithelia

Is tightly packed sheets of cells that line organs and outer surfaces, as well as the insides of hollow organs, vessels, and body cavities

Loose connective tissue

Matrix composed of collagen and elastic fibers. Binds epithelial to tissues, pads skin, and hold organs in place

Adipose

Fat. Connects skin to underlying structures, pads, organs, used for storage of energy (ATP)

Fibrous Connective Tissue

Forms tendons and ligaments

Cartilage

Cushions joints, forms support for ears and nose, the cells are chondrocytes. Not vascularized.

Hyaline (articular)

Most abundant type of cartilage, covers ends of long bones, reduces friction at bones

Fibrous

Main role is shock absorption, found in: inter vertebral discs, public symphysis, menisci of knee, epiglottis

Elastic

Structural cartilage, provides strength, rigidity, and maintains shape if some organs. Larynx. ear. Trachea. Eaustachain tubes. Nose.
