Describe the differences between One-year-old Wood and Permanent Wood

One-year-old Wood: shoots turn woody during the winter after they have grown. The following spring, they become One-year-old wood and the buds formed on them will grow into new shoots.

Permanent Wood: this is more than one year old and is made up of the trunk (and arms).

Name two grafting techniques and describe them.

Bench Grafting: short sections of cane are joined together and stored in warm environment to encourage the fusion between the parts.

Head Grafting: existing vine is cut back to the trunk and a bud or cutting of the new variety is grafted on it.

Head Grafting is used to switch to a new grape variety within an established vineyard.

Explain the terms Crossing and Hybrids.

Crossing: a new variety whose parents come from the same species.

Pinot Noir x Cinsault = Pinotage

Hybrid: a new variety whose parents come from different species, generally Vinifera and Labrusca.
