I am the Lord your God, you shall have no other gods before me.

Promotes religious freedom for Christians. No buying or selling of spiritual things. Against idolatry, superstition, and magic.

Commandment #1

Do not take the Lord God's name in vein.

Misuse of a promise. Blasphemy. Uttering against God inwardly and outwardly. Everyone's name is sacred.

Commandment #2

Keep holy the Lord's day.

Importance of leisure. Just/fair working conditions.

Commandment #3.

Honour your father and mother.

Honour, affection and gratitude to elders and ancestors. Anyone in authority (and vice versa- honour and respect isn't one way). Children are blessings, not possessions. Morality rules: no forced obedience.

Commandment #4

Do not kill.

Respect for human life. Forbids scandal and gossip. Respect for health. Against using people as a means to an end. Nonviolence. Against deliberate hatred.

Commandment #5

Do not commit adultery.

Chastity. Sexual self control. Self-mastery. Married people are also in need of chastity. Offences are that such as lust, pork, prostitution, rape, polygamy. In terms of homosexuality: (all) must remain chaste until marriage, and Catholic church doesn't recognize homosexuality marriages.

Commandment #6

Do not steal.

Commands justice. The common good. Care for goods/the fruits of one's labour. Stewardship, solidarity. Against business frauds, forgery etc. Worker's rights.

Commandment #7

Do not lie. (Do not bear false witness against your neighbour)

Tell the truth. Respect for confidentiality. The right to be informed. Against rash judgement against others.

Commandment #8

Do not covet your neighbour's wife.

Against lust. For temperance. Thoughts turn into actions.

Commandment #9

Do not covet your neighbour's goods.

Against jealousy and envy. Always wanting means that one is never satisfied.
