Respiratory tracts

Directory system is divided into two sections. The upper & lower airway tract.


- the upper tract is made up of the nose, mouth, pharynx, larynx. All structures of the upper Airway are located outside of the chest cavity.


- the lower airway tract is made of the trachea, bronchi, bronchioles, alveoli and all the connective tissue that makes up the lungs.

The diaphragm

The diaphragm muscle is the primary muscle of respiration and contracts and relaxes to move air in and out of the lungs

after air enters the body

After air enters the body through the nose and mouth, it passes down the trachea and enters the lungs to the right and left bronchi. From there the air passes through a smaller passages called bronchioles and eventually end up in the alveoli.
