Good morning everyoneToday, I, Amr Elashmouny, willpresent to you my non-profit organization.I havedecided to name the organization “The Priority”, as it is the organization’stop priority to help the homeless and the poor citizens of Egypt make a living andbe part of the labor force.

1

According to both the UNICEF website and Egypt’sAl Ahram Newspaper, about 13% of Egyptians are homeless, 25.9% are illiterate, and 27.8% live below the poverty line. So, in numbers, that’s about 12 millionhomeless Egyptians, 23 million illiterate Egyptians, and 25 million Egyptiansliving below the poverty line.

I havebeen part of two of the top charitable organizations in Egypt, al resala andsonaa el hayat. These organizations along with others provide food, clothing, and shelter to those in need. Some organizations focus on just the big citieslike Alexandria and Cairo, and others provide their services to the wholecountry. My idea developed from the raffle event that took place every month atal resala organization. The winner of the raffle event is awarded with a very smallshop, where he/she can start a small business.

There is one winner every month and sometimes two, so there is a maximum of 24 winners per year. The winner’s happiness was unexplainable that it touched upon me every time. So, I decided to provide those in need with a chance to work and have a fixed salary just like these fortunate winners.

Myorganization will seek out to the charitable organizations, in order to raise awarenessof its services. With the help of the charitable organizations, my organizationwill have easy access to the people in need for help, who I’ll refer to as thecustomers. Basically, my organization will serve as the employment office ofthe charitable organizations. The process is simple and it includes threesteps. The first step is to teach “the customers” how to read and write.

Some charitable organizations already have this service, so the customers who are literate can skip this step. The second step is to teach the customers a certain simple profession, and I’ll go more into details in a minute. The third step is to employ the customers.

As forthe second and third steps, the customers will have to be divided based onphysical and intellectual abilities. So customers who are physically able to doharder jobs will learn different professions than others. Also, customers whoare easily able to comprehend the skills needed for a job will also havedifferent professions than others. Customers who already have the skills for acertain profession can skip immediately to the third step, or they can learn anew profession.

The professions will include sewing, dealing with metalwork, carpentry, plumbing, working in a supermarket, a restaurant, or a café, transportation within a company, etc. An example of how the customers will be divided is the metalwork industry. Those who are physically able can work in carrying and delivering the materials needed for work. Those who are intellectually able can work in shaping the metal and work with the machines. It is quite difficult to help those who are not physically or intellectually able, but they can still work as waiters, cashiers, buildings’ security guards, etc. My organization will seek out to companies in Egypt that require a lot of workers, like mining, gas, and metal companies. An example is Hadid Ezz company, which is the leading steel producer in the Middle East.

As forthe funding of my organization, it will depend on donations from the people andinvestments from companies. My organization will have its own TV advertisementslike other charitable organizations in Egypt. Also, my organization will alsoseek help from the cooperating charitable organizations in order to raiseawareness of its services through their advertisements, as my organization’sservices will be an added feature to their services. My organization will seek investmentsfrom the companies that it is providing with low paid workers.

According to al ahram newspaper, over the past four years, 10% of the profits of leading companies in Egypt went to charity, as the government has declared that charity donations will lower a company’s taxes. Anyhow, my organization will not require a lot of funding as most of the work will be voluntary. The teachers at my organization will mostly be volunteers. My organization might only need funding for advertisement, and for the teachers who ask for a salary in return for their help. My organization’s activities will be focused in the two biggest cities of Egypt, Alexandria and Cairo, and as the donations and investments increase, its services will expand to other cities.

Finally, the predicted outcomes ofsuch organization will include diminishing unemployment rates, illiteracy rates, and most importantly poverty rates. I have already contacted both my directorsin al resala and sonaa el hayat, and I told them that there is a possibilitythat I’ll start this idea in Egypt, and they are willing to support my idea, oreven discuss the possibility of implementing it in their charitableorganizations, if I am not going to actually start it.
