Currents that form because of differences in ocean water density caused by differences in temperature and saltiness
Surface Current
Rivers of ocean water that flow near the surface of oceans- form when steady winds blow over the surface of the ocean
Storm Surge
A group of very large waves- often occur during hurricanes and cause a lot of damage
Wave
The up and down movement of the water particles that make it up

Precipitation
Water drops that fall to Earth as rain, snow, sleet, or hail
Water Cycle
The constant recycling of water from Earth's surface, to the atmosphere, and back to the Earth's surface again (evaporation, condensation, and precipitation)
Tide
Daily change in the local water level of the ocean- caused mainly by the gravitational pull of the moon on Earth's oceans
Trench
A very deep opening in the ocean floor
Adyssal Plain
A vast flat area of ocean floor covered with thick layers of sediment
