What did the 'Children and Young Persons Act' of 1908 give?
Parents could be persecuted for abuse or neglect. A child's life can't be insured. Anyone under 16 couldn't buy alcohol, tobacco or fireworks. Borstals (youth courts/prisons) set up.
How much did pensioners gain for the 'Pensions Act' of 1908, and how many benefited from it in the first year?
Single person: 25 pence. Married couple: 37.5 pence. Over 600,000 benefited by 1909.
What made a person eligible for a pension?
They had to be over 70, and have an income of less than £26 a year-for a married couple it was £39.
'The National Insurance Act' of 1911, covered health issues. What had to be payed, and what did workers gain in return?
Per week, a worker pays 4d, the employeer 3d, the government 2d. The worker then recieved 10shillings for 26 weeks of illness in a year.
'The National Insurance Act' of 1912, covered seasonal unemployment issues. What had to be payed, and what did people gain in return?
Worker, employer, and government pays 2.5 pence and then worker could recieve 7shillings a week for up to 15 unemployed weeks a year.
