What is anger?
Anger is a person's last desperate attempt to avoid responsibility and blame the situation on someone or something else.
The 3-R's that hold us back. Every human being I have ever met, w/o exception, has experienced this self-destructive thought process. This way of thinkin was formed at a very tender age and is now ingringed in most of us.
Why do smart people practice such a negative thought process? Because we do not connect a thought process directly to the damage it can cause. For ex. if u touch a hot stove today, but the burn doesn't show up for 6 mos, u might touch it frequently cuz u don't make the connection.
No one changes their way of being until they see the high cost or price of thier behavior. The 3-r's are Resentment, Resistance, & Revenge.
Resentment - resentment is any negative emotional reaction to what we think has been said or done. Common emotions include: anger, frustration, sadness, jealousy, and hate.
U may experience resentment when: your kids squeeze the toothpaste tube in the middle, your child talks back to you, someone cuts you off in traffic, when the person ahead of you at the grocery store has twenty items in the express lane, when the company you work for restructures, adn you lose your job, when someone you love dies at the hands of a drunk driver, etc...
Resentment is a natural part of life. In fact, if you do not experience resentment, u r emotionally numb or dead. 1000's starve every day. How can u not feel resentment unless u r emotionally numb.
Even if you r numb or mask your feelings u still experience resentment. It's still there and it still hurts. Many people choose to live in a world of indifference for this very reason.
Others have been told that resentment is inherently bad so they think there is something wrong with them when they experience resentment. The truth is, resentment occurs in any relationship, no matter how good it is. It occurs on the hob, no matter how good the company you work for is.
the real ? is: how will you handle resentment? the way u handle resentment can turn your life around. it can also destroy u if it leads u to resistance.
resistance - resistance is the cutting off of communication or putting up a wall. ex - couple has an arguement (resentment), and the husband rolls over to 1 side and the wife rolls the other way and u have resistance. the are not talking to each other. they are resisting each other. communication has been cut off. prices are being paid.
however, refusing to talk is only one of the ways to resist. people who procrastinate of feel confused are resisiting something.
When we have a problem at home and we bury ourselves in our work, or the television, or sleep, or food, we are resisiting. when we insist on always "being right" that lack of openess is resistance.
