What is the general purpose of Anthropology? |
Study interactions and interdependence of humanity with all aspects of their lives. May look deep into the past or into the very modern world. Uses a holistic perspective to understand human nature. |

what does it mean to have a holistic perspective? |
Viewing human culture through the broadest possible sense, to place phenomena in context while understanding their relationships and interdependence The holistic perspective helps combat ethnocentrism. |

What is ethnocentrism? |
The belief that one's own culture is more valuable and moral than others. It is to be avoided in the methodology. This view point prevents anthrops from taking a holistic perspective and taints their research, which is supposed to be the unbiased research of the diversity of all human systems. |

How does anthropology differ from sociology? |
Sociology generally looks at modern western civilizations. Anthropology looks at both modern and (pre)historic populations world wide. Anthropology suggests that a for a full understanding of human nature, all humans from all times and in all locations &circumstances must be studied. |

What is an example of a culture bound theory? |
"Most babies sleep in cribs, in their own rooms." This is true in the US (currently, but not 200 years ago). But for the vast majority of families, co-sleeping of the mother and child is the norm, and is actually found to be very beneficial for both the mother and child. Culture bound: perspective about the world that is based on researcher's ethnocentric assumptions and values. |

Why is anthropology an important contributor to all other fields? |
It is the only way to check for culture bound assertions. While anthro may challenge the conclusions of other fields, it provides a wider laboratory in which to consider the theories of other disciplines. |

Both While some anthropologists consider them more cultural and some consider them more physical there are valid arguments to be made for both categorizations. The divisions between Anthro's sub disciplines are not sharp, they have many shared areas of study |
