Flat Characterization

A character who has one or two sides, representing one or two traits (often a stereotype). They help move the plot along more quickly because the audience immediately understands what the character is about.

Round Characterization

A character who is complex and has many sides and traits with unpredictable behavior and a fully developed personality. Antagonists are usually this.

Dynamic Characterization

A character who expresses an essential change in personality or attitude. Protagonists are almost always this.

Static Characterization

A character who does not change or develop beyond the way in which she or he is first presented.

Denouement

The unraveling or untying of of the complexities of a plot (Think: Resolution).

Mood

The feeling the vocabulary used conveys to the reader.

Third Person Omniscient

A third person narrator that gives us the thoughts of the characters (all knowing).

Tone

The writer's attitude towards his or her subject.
