An economic system that encourages citizens to own buisnesses and property.

An economic and political system developed on a national level in the Soviet Union and in China. Under Communism, the government owns all the land and most industries in the name of the people.

Cuban Missile Crisis

A standoff in 1962 between the United States and Soviet Union over missiles the Soviets were placing in Cuba.

A ban, usually on trade goods, by one nation against another.

Guerrilla

A fighter who, as part of a small group, does not fight directly, but makes surprise raids or quick attacks from under cover.

An imaginary line in Europe separating nations of the West, such as the United States and European countries, and the Soviet Union and its Allies.

A conflict from 1950 to 1953 between Communist China and North Korea And the United States and South Korea.

In the late 1940s and 50s, the political bullying of innocent people for political reasons, named for Wisconsin Senator Joseph McCarthy.

Propaganda

The spreading of ideas or beliefs to gain support for a cause.

A conflict fought by two sides who are supported by two other, more powerful enemies who are involved in a larger struggle.
