What happens in prophase?

The chromosomes condense, getting shorter and fatter - the centrioles move to opposite ends of the cell, forming the spindle - the nuclear envelope breaks down

Chromosomes, centrioles, spindle, nuclear envelope

What happens in metaphase?

The chromosomes line up along the middle of the cell and become attached to the spindle by their centromere

Chromosomes, spindle, centromere

What happens in anaphase?

The centromeres divide - the spindles contract, pulling chromatids to opposite ends of the cell

Centromeres, spindle, chromatids

What happens in telophase?

The chromatids reach the opposite ends on the spindles - they uncoil and become long and thin again - a nuclear envelope forms around each group of chromosomes - cytokinesis happens and there are 2 daughter cells

Chromatids, spindles, nuclear envelope, chromosomes, cytokinesis, daughter cells

What is the order of the cell cycle?

Prophase - metaphase - anaphase - telophase
