What happens in prophase? |
The chromosomes condense, getting shorter and fatter - the centrioles move to opposite ends of the cell, forming the spindle - the nuclear envelope breaks down |
Chromosomes, centrioles, spindle, nuclear envelope |
|
What happens in metaphase? |
The chromosomes line up along the middle of the cell and become attached to the spindle by their centromere |
Chromosomes, spindle, centromere |
|
What happens in anaphase? |
The centromeres divide - the spindles contract, pulling chromatids to opposite ends of the cell |
Centromeres, spindle, chromatids |
|
What happens in telophase? |
The chromatids reach the opposite ends on the spindles - they uncoil and become long and thin again - a nuclear envelope forms around each group of chromosomes - cytokinesis happens and there are 2 daughter cells |
Chromatids, spindles, nuclear envelope, chromosomes, cytokinesis, daughter cells |
|
What is the order of the cell cycle? |
Prophase - metaphase - anaphase - telophase |
