How did Timothy know that a storm was coming? What did he do to prepare for the storm?
Timothy knew there was a storm coming because of signs of nature. He saw no birds in the sky, no fish by the shore, it was July, the hurricane season, and the sea "shot a rifle". To prepare, Timothy tied up the water keg, with the rope, made the hut on the highest point of the cay, and tied Phillip to the same "sturdy" tree.
Why did Timothy call the approaching storm a "freak"?
He has been through storms like this one and knew that it was a heavy storm.
Why was Phillip afraid of surviving the storm alone?
He was afraid because he was blind and didn't want to end up stuck on the cay by himself.
