Tetra of Fallot: What is the pathology?
Defect Decreasing pulmonary blood flow. Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) is a congenital heart defect which is classically understood to involve four anatomical abnormalities (although only three of them are always present). It is the most common cyanotic heart defect, and the most common cause of blue baby syndrome.
Tetra of Fallot: What is the cause?
Lesions decreasing pulmonary blood flow. Blood flows from right side of heart to left side.
Tetra of Fallot: Signs & symptoms?
if not severe: asymptamic after closure of ductus arteriousus. When child older, shows up as unexplained hypertension, leg pain/cramping on exercise.
if severe: low cardiac output, acidosis, shock
patient blue, pulmonary blood flow low, low oxygen in blood
Tetra of Fallot: What risk factors?
Coarction of Aorta Obstructive-no flow. Causes low cardiac output & shock
A narrowing of the aorta right after the curvature restricting blood flow near the insertion of the ductus arteriosus resulting in increased B/P in upper body (head & arms), and decreased B/P in lower body (torso & legs).
