What is a system definition?
A concise description of a computerised system expressed in natural language
Why do system choice?
Developers need to know the topic and scope of the system, particularly to define the problem correctly and get an agreement on what the dev team is trying to accomplish. The result is an agreed/chosen system definition
Sub activities of system choice -

Describe the situation - learn about the situation and describe using rich pictures


2. Create new ideas - exemplars, metaphors, experiments and prototypes.


3. Define system - must deal with the system as a whole, needs to brief precise, yet complex.

Principles of system choice -

1. Appreciate the situation - be open, but be critical of views. Use rich pictures for overview and discussion

What is a rich picture?
An informal drawing that presents the illustrators understanding of a situation
What is the FACTOR Criteria?

It is used to support or help construct a system definition.


Functionality - functions which the system provides to users (generate draft plan, edit plan etc)


Application - the AD that the system will be part of and support


Conditions - Under which the system will be developed and used


Technology - used to develop and run the system


Objects - main objects in the PD


Responsibility - Overall, relative to its context.
