Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome

Target lesions on skin and mucosa.

Commonest syndrome associated with cleft palate

Sjogren's syndrome

Autoimmune disorder in middle aged women.


Xerostomia, keratoconjunctivitis and an autoimmune disorder (e.g. rheumatoid arthritis)

Reye's syndrome

Can be caused by giving aspirin to under 16's


Serious liver and brain damage

Reiter's syndrome

Arthritis and conjunctivitis in young men


Reactive arthritis to bacteria/virus

Caused by iron deficiency

Difficulty swallowing, glossitis, cheilitis, oesophageal webs (pre-malignant)

Pierre Robin syndrome

Moulding defect due to compression in the womb from loss of amniotic fluid.


Cleft palate, retrognathia (posteriorly placed mandible), glossoptosis (backwards displacement of tongue - airway obstruction).



Peutz-Jegher syndrome

Dominant genetic disorder.


Benign polyps GIT.


Melanocytic macules on oral mucosa - pigmentation freckles affecting tongue, buccal & labial mucosa.

Thickening of the palms of hands and soles of feet.

McClune Albright syndrome

Polystotic fibrous dysplasia (normal bone gets replaced with fibrous tissue)


Cafe au lait pigmentation.
