• Prior to Lawrence sodomy laws were often used in adoption cases, judges restricted gay parents' rights on the grounds that sodomy was a felony.
• Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA)
1998 • Would have made it illegal for companies with more than 15 employees to discriminate against LGBT employees.
• Opponents argued that this would give LGBT people “special rights”.
• It was defeated by one vote (49 to 50).
