Exegetical Theology- "may deal with texts of any length: one verse, a paragraph, a book, a testament, the whole Bible. Exegetical theology is distinctive...
because the theologian must go through the text word by word or phrase by phrase, seeking the meaning of each sentence in its context." (Frame, Doctrine of Knowledge of God, p.206)
Biblical Theology
Contributes an emphasis on the thematic compilations of exegetical study. (bringing it all together)
Biblical Theology: Contributions of various biblical authors to specific biblical doctrines over the course of biblical history
[ex. Messiah: Isa. 53; Zech. 9:9; Mt.1]

Biblical Theology works over and through time!
Diachronic study: through time.

"The discipline which traces the historical development of a doctrine and is concerned with the distinctly sectarian variations and heretical...
departures from Biblical truth which appeared during the Christian era"(From: Dr. John S. Feinberg= History of Doctrine{what we confess})
History of Christian Thought=
The study of the interaction of Christian and secular thought through history. The Christian reaction to how the secular world does things.
Often in the realm of the History of doctrine...what has developed has arisen because of disagreements, fights, etc.
That is why it is confessional; It implies there was or is a struggle!
exegetical->biblical->[historical] -> systematic
all interconnected!

Summary of Doing Theology:
1.)Theology is Process and interaction. (Looking at Scripture, what the church has believed, what has been written, what does God have to say?)
Summary of Doing Theology:
2.) Issues and questions drive theological formulation. (Memory is involved, what has the church believed? Then make the connection and address the issue.)
