An “apocalypse” is simply a revelation usually from God that reveals a mystery being something that was hidden.
Revelation: (derived definition)
the work of God whereby He took the initiative to disclose Himself to man through various means of communication. This work of God in revelation also incorporates the fact that God facilitated in man the capacity to observe and understand His revelation.
Focus: our NEED for revelation.
Our Need:
1.) Created Beings- made in image of God (Gen. 1:26-27)
2.) God is, we are, relational
3.) Information needed to have relationships
4.) Standards of right and wrong
Revelation:
God's initiative disclosing Himself through the communication of truth to man.
Inspiration:
(2 Pet. 1:21; 2 Tim. 3:16)
The work of the Holy Spirit in and through the biblical authors to secure the accurate transference of God's truth into written language for men
Illumination:
(Luke 24:27; Eph. 3:4-6; 2 Tim. 2:15-19)
