What is the purpose of the Fleet Freight/Cargo Message ?
Ships must submit and continually update fleet freight routing instructions according to the ship’s schedule to provide clear and complete cargo routing instructions.
Ship’s going on deployment must send a message to NAVTRANSSUPPCEN 30 days prior to leaving.
Discuss the purpose of the ship’s store afloat ?
• Provide a convenient and reliable source for personnel to obtain articles considered necessary for their health, comfort, or convenience at the lowest practical price.
• Provide services necessary in day-to-day living
• Promotes good morale.
Discuss the Navy Cash Program
Navy / Marine Cash evolved from the ATMs-at-Sea program and replaces those familiar ATMs with a state-of-the-art debit card system.
. K80 Cashless ATMs on board ship provide 24-hour-a-day
The K80 Cashless ATMs provide 24/7 offline access to bank or credit union accounts ashore and the ability to move money to and from Navy / Marine Cash accounts and bank and credit union accounts. The Navy / Marine Cash Debit MasterCard® looks similar to a typical debit or check card. However, the Navy / Marine Cash card introduces a chip-based electronic purse in addition to the traditional magnetic strip. The electronic purse replaces bills and coins for your purchases on board ship and provides for an essentially cashless environment within the lifelines of the ship.
Explain endurance loading of subsistence and how it affects the ship’s mission and sustainability
. The ability to load the proper amount of subsistence items for the crew to sustain a scheduled deployment.
2. Planning for any emergencies is a duty of the Food Service Officer, combined with the guidance from the Supply Officer.
3. Ship’s mission and morale can be affected if any problems arise.
Define and describe the Basic Daily Food Allowance (BDFA) and state how it effects each crewmember:
BDFA is a set quantity of food required to provide a nutritionally adequate daily diet for one person and can be defined by components or monetary value.
-Monetary value of BDFA is developed from the standard DOD Food Cost Index.
-Allowance system provides standard prices among all general messes regardless of location.
-NAVSUPNOTE 7330 issues the BDFA monetary value and includes the fixed price list which applies to most food item codes.
-Published fixed unit prices allows maximum benefit of the BDFA.
-NAVSUPNOTE 7330 also lists Supplemental and Special Food Allowances.
State what kinds of rations are utilized during battle stations when the galley or galley personnel are not available and where they are distributed:
Battle messing shall be initiated by the CO when regularly scheduled Messdecks food service operations cannot be provided to the crew.
what is the CO action
• Notifies the SUPPO to prepare battle messing.
• Once battle messing is ready to go, CO will authorize Battle messing to begin.
what is the suppo action
• SUPPO is informed by the CO to prepare battle messing
• Directs FSO to prepare battle messing and to report when finished
• SUPPO will inform the CO when battle messing is prepared
what is fso action
• Notified by the SUPPO to prepare battle messing
• If required, FSO will augment Galley/Messdecks by requesting release of all necessary personnel from GQ stations.
• FSO will notify DCA to prepare for battle messing
• Once DCA is ready for battle messing and FSO has food prepared, FSO will notify the SUPPO that battle messing is ready to commence.
what is DCA action
• Ensures galley has steam, water, ventilation, drainage, lights, and access to all necessary spaces
• Once notified by the FSO he will ensure all routes necessary are open and available.
• DCA will pass the word to “Prepare for battle messing” and when notified by the FSO that the CO has authorized battle messing to start, he will pass the word to “Commence Battle Messing”.
• Once battle messing is complete he will ensure all hatches are secured for GQ as appropriate and afterwards report to the CO that the ship has been secured from battle messing.
what is Repair locker officers action
• RLOs will identify battle ration requirements for his responsible area.
• RLOs will submit a battle ration requirement noting the repair locker number and number of required rations.
• Will send designated personnel to get rations
what are the battle messing items
• Two sandwiches
• One or two sealed juices
• One hard boiled egg
• 1 Fruit
• 1 candy bar
what is the mission of naval logistics
Sustained naval and joint operations are made possible by a logistic support system that has two major components: fleet-based sustainment assets and strategic sustainment assets. Fleet-based sustainment assets include replenishment ships of the combat logistics force providing direct fleet support, combat service support units, mobile repair facilities, and advanced logistic support hubs. Strategic sustainment is provided by air and sea assets that are shared by all Services.
What are the 7 principles of naval logistics and describe them

responsiveness
Providing the right support at the right time, at the right place
simplicity
Avoiding unnecessary complexity in preparing, planning and conducting logistic operations.
flexibility
Adapting logistics support to changing conditions. Logistics must be flexible enough to support changing missions, evolving concepts of operations, and the dynamic situations that characterize naval operations
Economic
Employing logistic support assets effectively. Accomplishing the mission requires the economical use of logistic support resources.
Attainability:
Acquiring the minimum essential logistic support begin combat operations. Risk is defined as the difference between the commanders desired level of support and the absolute minimum needed to satisfy mission requirements.
Sustainability
Providing logistic support for the duration of the operation. Sustaining the logistic needs of committed forces in a campaign of uncertain duration is the greatest challenge to the logistician
Survivability
Ensuring that the logistic infrastructure prevails in spite of degradation and damage.
State the difference between a Force Level RSUPPLY and Unit Level RSUPPLY ship
Force Level RSupply is the afloat logistics application used on all large deck (ex. CV, CVN, LHA, LHD) platforms, Naval Air Stations (NAS) and Marine Aviation Logistics Squadrons using Navy Working Capital Fund (NWCF) accounting. Unit Level RSupply is the afloat logistics application used on small surface (“small boys”) and subsurface combatants (ex. FFG, DDG, CG, LSD, LPD, SSN, SSBN, SSGN) to manage end-use (OM&N) funds.
Discuss the interface of RSUPPLY, NALCOMIS, and OMMS/NG.
RSUPPLY is the hub through which all requisitions flow and can be tracked. Additionally it is the primary means of requisitioning consumable material.
-NALCOMIS is used to requisition aviation related material (consumable and repair parts).
-OMMS/NG is used to requisition Maintenance related repair parts.
Describe the following and how they pertain to combat logistics and resources
a. ATAV-Afloat Total Asset Visibility. Provides information on material carried on ships.
b. One Touch-Primary Point of entry for supply related queries. One Touch allows for technical screenings (similar to FEDLOG), stock checks (worldwide), requisition input, requisition status, requisition audit, and shipment tracking.
c. GDSC-Global Distance Support Center. Built to provide the fleet with a single point of entry for assistance. GDSC provides support for any question, whether it be technical, logistics, etc… Help may be requested via phone, e-mail, or Naval message.
Describe the purpose of a “Never Out List” and what it contains
A “Never Out List” should be created when a consumable material has been identified as being vital to the ship’s mission. Examples would include toilet paper, rags, purell, and laundry soap
