A form of amnesia for events that occured in a drinking episode
Wernickes Encephalopathy
CNS problem with symptoms of ataxia, confusion and abnormal eye movements due to chrnoic thiamine deficiency
Korsakoff's
CNS damage realted to long term ETOH use characterized by short term and long term memory deficits
Alcohol Dementia
Impaired memory, abstract thinking and judgement and personality change realted to chronic ETOH abuse
Withdrawl
Physiological, behavioral, cognitive and affective symptoms that occur after abrupt reduction or discontinuation of a substance that has been used continually for a long period of time
Delirium Tremors
Symptoms include: confusions, disorientation, hallucinations (usually viual or tactile), tachycardia, severe tremors, diaphoresis, and agitation. Fever is usually present but not always. Usually occurs on 2nd or 3rd day of withdrawl but can happen up to 14 days in withdrawl.
