What are the two main parts of a sentence? |
Subject and predicate |

What is the complete subject? |
The who or what that acts upon the verb and all its modifiers.
Ex: That stupid idiot My dog She |

What is the complete predicate? |
The rest;has both the verb and adverbs which modify it Ex:stole my pen is a poodle asked the man a question |

Why are we doing this? |
To avoid sentence fragments, also known as only parts of sentence. You are missing either a subject or a predicate.
Ex: Jason, that cool dj at the club.(predicate) Huge jaws and sharp teeth. (both) Including my brother. (both) |

What is the simple subject? |
The single noun or pronoun (unmodified) which is acting upon the verb.
Ex: That stupid idiot shot my dog. ^ |

What is the simple predicate? |
The verb.
Ex: That stupid idiot shot my dog. ^ |

What is an imperative sentence? |
A command with an understood subject of "you". |

What is the subject of an imperative sentence? |
The understood subject, you. |

What is an interrogative sentence? |
A question; subject and verb reversed. Ex: How is Sally? |

What is a declarative sentence? |
A statement; has a period at the end. The pattern is subjects followed by predicate. |

What happens when a declaratives become interrogatives? |
The subject and verb switch places. Ex: D- The dog /ate my homework. S V I- Did/ the dog/ eat your homework? P S P |

What is a helping verb when added to a verb? |
A verb phrase. |

What is a compound subject? |
Consists of two or more connected subjects that act upon the same verb, there is no simple subject. |

Rule 1 |
When two or more subjects act upon the same verb, a connecting word usually and or or is used between them. |

Rule 2 |
The verb used must reflect and agree with the compound subject (probably plural)
Ex: New York and London are my two favorite cities. (No longer is because it's now plural) |

What is a compound predicate? |
A sentence that has a single subjects acting upon two or more verbs.
Ex: Linda wrote her essay and finished her Spanish project last night.
