Mohammed
The last prophet of Islam and the creator of Islam that was born in Mecca. He is very important because he created Islam and if it wasn't for him, that religion would've never existed probably.
Uthman
The 3rd Caliph of the Caliphate. He's important because he compiled the Koran and started corruption in the religion.
The Caliphate
A period of time when there were political leaders after the death of Mohammed. It's important because the leaders controlled the Muslim Empire and expanded it.
Jihad
The struggle against inner (temptation) and outer (threats to the Umma) evil. It is important because Muslims should fight temptations and protect the Umma to be good Muslims.
Umma
Word used to refer to the Islamic community. It's important because before the separation of the religion into Shi'a and Sunni, every good Muslim was part of the Umma.
Abbasids
Period of time after the Umayyads that started with the rebellion against the Umayyads of Abu Muslim. It's important because it was the Golden Ages of Islam.
Constantine
The founder and emperor of the Byzantine Empire. He's important because he founded the Empire and he was a great leader of Christianity.

An Emperor of the Byzantine Empire after Diocletian. He's important because he promoted greco-roman culture, education, expanded the Empire, made the Justinian Code but he also killed 30,000 persons in the Nika Riots.
The Nika Riots
When two teams from the Hippodrome (blue and green) unite and rebel against Justinian because of the high taxes, the Justinian Code and the oppressive government. It's important because Justinian killed 30,000 persons and he had a lot of power without much opposition.
Justinian's Plague
Disease that strikes Europe and the Middle East that starts in the ports of Alexandria and Pelousion. It's important because it killed half of the population died from that disease and Justinian got the disease but survived.
The Great Schism
The separation of the church into Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox. It's important because it was the greatest split in Christianity that still exists until today.

5 religious leaders of Christianity that belonged to the Pentarchy and all the Patriarchs were located in: Rome, Alexandria, Constantinople, Jerusalem, and Antioch. The Patriarchs are important because they made the decisions about the religion by council.
Battle of Milvian Bridge
It is a was Battle between east and west of the Empire in Constantinople (east -greek) and Maxentius (west-latin). It is import because it made Constantine converts to Christianity and made the religion grow. When Constantine won and he united the empire.
Pagan
A polytheistic religion based on nature that doesn't have the structure of a world religion, gods of nature. They were important because those where the people from the Germanic Tribes.
Theodosius Decree
Law made by Theodosius saying that only was permuted in the Empire and the only 2 versions for Christianity were in Rome and Alexandria. It's important because this way, the religion was expanded.
Secular
When the church not only has spiritual power but now also gains political power. This puts the church at the same level of power than the Empire. It is important because it allowed Pope Gregory 1 to raise armies, repair roads, help the poor and negotiate peace treaties with invaders (Lombards). Also, it led to the Crusades.
Battle of Tours
A battle in which Charles Martel fought against the Muslims. It's important because he defeated the Muslims and stopped the spread of Islam.
Donation of Pepin
Pepin gives more power and land to the Roman Church. It's important because he moves the loyalty of the Roman Church from the Byzantines to the Franks and this leads to the Great Schism.
Holy Roman Empire
Empire that starts with Charlemagne after being crowned Holy Roman Emperor by Pope Leo III. It's important because it was a continuation of the Roman Empire, it was affiliated to the Church and it had ties to the city of Rome.
Charlemagne
Son of Pepin the Short that was the ruler of the Franks but then is crowned Holy Roman Emperor by Pope Leo III. He's important because he expands the Empire, he expanded Christianity, promoted arts, educations and culture, allowed the poor to be educated, and he built the Cathedral in Aachen and more monuments.
Treaty of Verdun
A treaty made by the sons of Louis the Pious (Lothair, Louis the German, and Charles the Bald) that divided the Empire into 3. It's important because this made the Empire vulnerable to invasions and so it declined.
