Organism

A living thing.

Bacteria

A unicellular (one-celled) organism

Prokaryotic Cell

A type of cell that does have a membrane-bound nucleus and organelles. EX: plant cells and animal cells.

Eukaryotic Cell

A type of cell that does not have a membrane-bound nucleus or organelles. EX: Bacteria, yeast, amoeba

Unicellular

An organism only made of one cell. EX: bacteria.

Multicellular

An organism made of more than one cell. EX: animal.

Organelle

A structure inside a cell that does have a specific function to keep a cell alive.

Nucleus

The center of a cell that contains DNA and controls the cell’s activities. Found in both plant and animal cells.

Chloroplast

An organelle who takes energy from sunlight and turns it into food for cells. Only found in plant cells.

Mitochondria

An organelle that takes food and turns it into energy for cells. Found in both plant and animal cells.

Cell Wall

A rigid layer of nonliving material that surrounds the cells of plants and provides structure and support for the plant.

Cell Membrane

A thin, flexible barrier around a cell who controls what enters and leaves the cell.

Specialised

Does one specific thing.

Tissue

A group of similar cells who perform the same function.

Organ

A collection of tissues that carry out a specialized function in the body.

Body System

A group of organs that work together to perform a certain function.

Circulatory System

The human body system that contains the heart, blood, and all of the blood vessels. It delivers all nutrients to the cells.

Digestive System

The body system that breaks down food and absorbs nutrients for cells to use.

Nervous System

The body system that detects information from the environment and controls body functions.
