Step 1
ensure the donning button on the second stage regulator is pressed.
Step 2
Pull SCBA forward from holder,check air bottle to ensure adequate pressure.
Step 3
Open cylinder valve fully and back 1/2 turn, listen for activation of low pressure whistle and visually observe diagnostic check, battery level and warning lights of sentinel gauge.
Visually ensure Sentinel pressure is above 4000psi.
Step 4
LOOKING to the rear to ensure safe area, remove SCBA from cabinet. Don SCBA using coat or over the head method with arms taking in the harness straps over the shoulders.
(If SCBA is in jump seat, after checking pressure gauge and turning bottle on, replace SCBA into holder and sit back into seat to shoulder SCBA from a seated position.)
Step 5
Adjust waist belt top suit, keeping buckle centred. Weight of the SCBA should rest comfortably on your hips. Grasp shoulder straps and pull in a downward motion to tighten straps.
Step 6
Using neck strap (if equipped), hang face piece around neck or attach spider straps to clasp on harness or turnout coat to prevent dragging.
Step 7
Don the face piece using the "prayer method" of placing your fingers in the straps, while resting your chin in the bottom of the mask.
Step 8
Simultaneously tighten lower spider straps, then middle straps and finally the top centre strap. Inhale to activate the positive pressure flow. Tug test the second stage regulator to verify its secure.
Step 9
Insert two fingers into side of face piece allowing air to escape, ensuring adequate positive pressure function. release face piece ensuring pressurized seal, hold breath for five seconds listening for air leaks.
perform negative pressure leak test by pressing and holding donning button for three seconds while inhaling. face piece should collapse against your face.
Step 10
open bypass valve fully ensuring proper operation.
Step 11
Verify HUDS display with Sentinel gauge.
Turn on Voice Amp.
Ensure balaclava, ear flaps, jacket collar and other personal protective clothing is properly in place prior to entering hazardous area.
