A way of writing numbers with only digits. For example, 56,890

expanded form
A way to write numbers that shows the value of each digit. For example, 3,747 = 3,000 + 700 + 40 + 7
commutative property
The order of the numbers doesn't matter when we add or multiply. 7 x 4 = 4 x 7
zero property of addition
When you add zero to a number, the answer is always the other number. 7 + 0 = 7
property of one for multiplication
When you multiply a number by 1, the answer is always the other number. 5 x 1 = 5
associative property
When adding or multiplying three or more numbers, it doesn't matter which 2 numbers you add or multiply first. (5 + 6) + 4 = 5 + (6 + 4)
symmetric property
6 x 7 = 42, so 42 = 6 x 7
fact family
A set of related addition and subtraction or multiplication and division problems.
equation
A number sentence that uses an equals sign to show that two amounts are equal.
