The value of performing the ongoing assessment is to detect changes in the patient’s conditions
Describe the emergency care for a chemical burn.
- Chemical burns require immediate care.
- Hopeful someone has started care before EMT arrival.
- The primary care procedure is to WASH away the chemical bur with flowing water
- If a dry chemical is involved. BRUSH away as much of the chemical as possible and flush the skin for at least 20 minutes, and continue en route to the hospital
- Remove contaminated clothing , shoes, socks, and jewelry as you apply the wash
- Do not contaminate unaffected skin!
- Apply a sterile dressing or burn sheet
- Treat for shock
- Transport
- Provide ongoing assessment
