INTRODUCTION:Good morning honorable judges, parents, students and teachers. Today i am here to inform you about Ireland and its people. “failte”. This is welcome in Gaelic. I found out that on every sign the Irish have posted in Ireland it is written in English and then in Gaelic.

SUB TOPIC:Where the Irish originated from.
The first known people came to Ireland 10 000 years ago. That was in the 700s BC! Also by the year 600 AD, missionaries like Saint Patrick came to the island and brought Christianity. Around the same time the Vikings started, and made several, invasions to Ireland. This happened
between 600-800 AD. By 1169 the British invasions had started. Then by the end of the 1600s the British and Scottish settled in. This marked the beginning of the religious wars that Ireland is known for to this day. Later on in 1801, Ireland became a part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain. Then in 1922 Ireland became independent of Great Britain. In 1937 6 north eastern counties split from Ireland to stay joined to the United Kingdom of Great Britain. That’s how it became Northern Ireland and Ireland. Currently all is quiet in Northern Ireland between the Catholics and the Protestants, Ireland is now considered basically a whole country again.
SUB TOPIC:How old is Ireland or when was it declared?
Some historians think Ireland was populated around 8000 BC. The Republic was declared in 1916. It was originally populated by Vikings and the Pict’s. The Celtic peoples came in 600 BC.
The Gaels came to Ireland in 100 BC. This is where the Gaelic language originated from. There are many legends regarding how Ireland came to be.
SUB TOPIC:How many people speak Gaelic in Ireland?
There are approximately 40 000-80 000 people that still speak Gaelic in Ireland today. It is considered their second language. They learn some Gaelic in school but its not a requirement for jobs. Unless you want to work in the government or as a teacher. There is one area called the Gaeltacht, in the northern part of Ireland where Gaelic is still spoken by everyone. Even the signs are in Gaelic which makes it hard to get around if you are a tourist.

SUB TOPIC: How many main cities are there?
There are 8 main cities in Ireland. The first one is Dublin. Dublin is a big city, it is the capital of Ireland and the most populated city in Ireland. It was originally a Viking settlement. It got bigger very fast and was briefly the second largest city in the British Empire and fifth in Europe. The next one is Cork. Cork has a population of 190 384. There are also docks along the River Lee on the city’s east side. The third one is Galway. Galway is in the County Galway, Ireland. It is located on the west coast of Ireland. It is the fastest-growing city on the island Ireland. The population is 74 414. Another one is Kilkenny. Kilkenny has a population of 22 179. A lot of tourists like Kilkenny. It has different tourist places for you to go such as Kilkenny Castle, St Mary’s Cathedral and Rothe House. The last place I’m going to talk about is Belfast. It has the population of 267 500 people. Now, Belfast still is a center for industry as well as the arts, be
SUB TOPIC:The largest exports of Ireland.
The largest exports of Ireland are beef and Guinness beer. Guiness is available in over 100 countries. It is also brewed in around 50 countries. Some of the places they export to are Canada, USA, and all over Europe. In May 1769 Guinness exported there first ale. It became the largest brewery in Ireland in 1838. Guinness is 250 years old. The reason beef is one of Ireland’s largest export is because Ireland has a large amount of fertile pastured land. There are very little trees in Ireland compared to other countries. Agriculture exported for 7.15 billion Euros in 2004.
STUDENT WORK AREA:
CONCLUSION: Thank you for listening honorable judges, parents, students and teachers. I hope you learned something new today by listening to my speech.
I know it does not sound like much when your hearing about it but I was there last year. When I was there I saw the most amazing things like the fields. The fields I found were the most beautiful. They were very green, different greens like some were light some were dark and some were in between. I also saw a bunch of different castles, like Blarney castle, Ross castle and the O’Donnell castle. Ireland was one of the best experiences ever! Also there are lots of
different legends and folk tales about Ireland one of them I went to a museum about, it was called the Leprechan museum!
