Grandparents will love presenting pre-schoolers with this fun and educational toy that turns the television into more than a passive baby-sitter. This electronic learning system for preschoolers plugs directly into a television, and at first take looks a lot like a video-game console. Insert any of Vtech's "Smartridges" into the unit for lessons on language, math, phonics, problem-solving, music, and more.

These interactive pets, first introduced in the 1990s are back with a fun twist. They're still the adorable little creatures who need attention and love, but now they're sociable! Through the use of infrared technology the Tamagotchi pets can "visit, play games, and even leave presents for each other."

Cuddly Care Bears hang tough for the second year in a row on our list of hot toys. These sweet bears were first a big hit in the 1980s but regained popularity in the past few years with toddlers and, surprise, teens.

A late entry to our list, but this fabulous flick is such a big hit and there are some really cool toys -- like the remote control Incredobile. And while we're all about toys, DisneyDirect has an excellent selection of Incredibles bedding, apparel, cookie jars, and more.

The electronic/interactive Fur Real Friends debuted on our list in 2002, but just didn't make the cut in 2003. Why bring them back? Well they warmed our hearts and won a hot spot on our list with the absolutely adorable Love Cubs -- the Panda is our favorite, but the cuddly charms of the polar cub and bronw bear cub are not to be ignored. And yes, we'll even toss a few scritches at the cutie-pie kitten.

Transformers were a big hit last year (it was their 20th Anniversary) and they're still making the scene with their new transformations of old Transformer heroes and villians. Top of the list this year is the Energon Series -- though we must admit, we're not sure this year if these toys will be more popular with the kiddies or their collector parents who remember the original series.

Two years ago, it was Chicken Dance Elmo... we liked that one a lot. Last year it was Hokey Pokey Elmo and we rather found him to be Ho-Hum Elmo, but he still made the list and he was sold out from most online retailers in early December. This year he's sure, once again, to be a hit and we're a bit more encouraged -- it's disco Elmo. Singing his own version of the seventies hit "YMCA", Elmo is reported to have learned a whole new set of moves for this one.

We know Robosapien is on everyone's hot list this year and we believe he will be VERY hot -- as in lots of people will buy him.
But we evaluated him inhouse and have to say we were disappointed -- we found he gets trapped by walls, his "throwing" is best described as loudly dropping an object two inches (if that) from his feet, and the only "picking up" action we could easily repeat was picking up the "bucket" that comes with him for the very purpose of providing the buyer with SOMETHING he can pick up. |

Nebraska Football Future
|
Nebraska Cornhusker football should be banned from the NCAA. Apart from having one of the most apathetic squads on the field, Nebraska plays at a level which would not intimidate local community college teams. Oh sure, they'll regale you with their latest, hard-fought victory over Troy State, but after a while, even that scorcher of a game leaves little doubt that this team is not acheiving anything.

Nebraska Football Future
|
Now with nowhere to go for the holidays, the coaching staff can concentrate on recruiting and the future of Nebraska football.
"I see bright days ahead. I really do," said Callahan, who told the fans not to lose faith. "I'm optimistic about where we're going and the direction we're heading." |

Look, $80-100 is a LOT of money to spend on a toy. By all means check him out and if your child has his heart set on the robot and you can afford it, it won't really matter what we think. Afterall, I don't remember ever getting a single bad toy, but I do remember NOT getting the one toy I really, really, really wanted.

|
If the recipient of this toy is likely to be entertained by the pre-programmed demos or the fact that he farts and belches, it may be worth the price. If the recipient is a hardcore geek that can hack his programming (there are many online doing so), it will certainly be worth the price. But if the recipient is expecting a functional robot to play with as is? Maybe not so worth the price.
