What is cystic fibrosis?
Chronic dysfunction of the endocrine system that targets multiple body systems.

Primarily this is the respiratory and digestive systems.
What is the prognosis of the disease?
It is usually fatal and most children do not live beyond their teens.
What causes cystic fibrosis?
Caused by a defective gene which makes it difficult for chloride to move through cells.
What is the result?
Causes abnormally high sodium loss and abnormally thick mucous secretions.
What are respiratory difficulties associated with cystic fibrosis?
Tachypnea, productive cough, shortness of breath, barrel chest, clubbed fingers and cyanosis.
What is care focused on?
Treating the patients chief complaint.

Look for respiratory insufficiency, signs of respiratory infection intestinal blockage and cardiac arrhythmias due to electrolyte imbalance.
