What is cystic fibrosis?
|
Chronic dysfunction of the endocrine system that targets multiple body systems.
Primarily this is the respiratory and digestive systems. |

What is the prognosis of the disease?
|
It is usually fatal and most children do not live beyond their teens.
|

What causes cystic fibrosis?
|
Caused by a defective gene which makes it difficult for chloride to move through cells.
|

What is the result?
|
Causes abnormally high sodium loss and abnormally thick mucous secretions.
|
|
What are respiratory difficulties associated with cystic fibrosis?
|
Tachypnea, productive cough, shortness of breath, barrel chest, clubbed fingers and cyanosis.

|
What is care focused on?
|
Treating the patients chief complaint.
Look for respiratory insufficiency, signs of respiratory infection intestinal blockage and cardiac arrhythmias due to electrolyte imbalance. |
