Axis
An Imaginary line about which a body rotates.
Rotation
The action of rotating an axis or center.
Revolution
Motion in orbit or a circular course or around an axis or center.
Eclipse
An obscuring of the light from one celestial body by the passage of another between it and the observer or between it and its source of illumination.
Solstice
Either of the two times in the year, the Summer solstice and the Winter solstice, when the sun reaches its highest or lowest point in the sky at noon, marked by the longest and shortest days.
Equinox
The time or date (twice each year) at which the sun crosses the celestial equator, when day and night are of the equal length (about September 22 and March 20).
Solar Eclipse
An eclipse in which the sun is obscured by the moon.
Lunar Eclipse
An eclipse in which the moon appears darkened as it passes into the Earths shadow.
Maria
A large, level basalt plain on the surface of the moon appearing dark by contrast with highlands areas:[in names].
Electromagnetic Spectrum
The range of wavelengths or frequencies over which electromagnetic radiation extends.
Refracting Telescope
A telescope that uses a converging lens to collect light.
Reflecting Telescope
A telescope in which a mirror is used to collect and focus light.
Observatory
A room or building housing an astronomical telescope or other scientific equipment for the study of nature phenomena.
Radio Telescope
An instrument used to detect radio emissions from the sky, whether from nature celestial objects or from artificial satellites.
Satellite
An artificial body placed in orbit around the Earth or the moon or another planet in order to collect information or for communication.
Moon Phase
Is the appearance of the illuminated portion of the moon as seen by an observer, usually on Earth.
New Moon
The phase of the moon when it is in conjunction with the sun and invisible from earth,or shortly thereafter when it appears as a slender crescent.
Waxing(Moon)
Is the appearance of the illuminated portion of the moon as seen by an observer, usually on Earth.
Full Moon
The phase of the moon in which its whole disk is illuminated.
Waning Moon
Is the appearance of the illuminated portion of the moon as seen by an observer on Earth.
Rocket
An elongated rocket-propelled missile or spacecraft that goes up into space.
Orbit
The curved path of celestial object or spacecraft around a star, planet,or moon, esp.a periodic elliptical revolution.
Space Probe
a projecting device for engaging in a drogue, either on an aircraft for use in in flight refueling or on a spacecraft for use in docking with another craft.
Project Mercury
Was the first human spaceflight program of the United States. It ran fro 1959 through 1963 with the goal of putting a human in orbit around the Earth.
Project Gemini
Was the second human spaceflight program of NASA,the civilian space agency of the United States government.
Project Apollo
Was the United States spaceflight effort which landed the first humans on Earth's moon.
Space Shuttle
Is a reusable launch system and orbital spacecraft operated by the U.S National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) for human spaceflight missions.
Space Station
Is a manned satellite designed to remain in low Earth orbit for a long period of time, and which has the ability for other spacecraft to dock to it.
Solar System
Consists of the Sun and astronomical objects bound to it by gravity ,all of which formed form the collapse of a giant molecular cloud approximately 4.6 billion years ago.
Mercury
Is the innermost and the smallest planet in the Solar System , orbiting the Sun once every 87.969 Earth days.
Venus
is the second planet from the Sun,orbiting it every 224.7 Earth days.
Earth
Is the third planet from the Sun and the densest and fifth-largest of the eight planets in the Solar System.
Mars
Is the fourth planet from the Sun in the Solar System. The planet is named after the Roman god of war,Mars.
Jupiter
Is the fifth planet from the Sun and the largest planet within the Solar System. It is a Gas giant.
Saturn
Is the sixth planet from the Sun and the second largest planet in the Solar System, after Jupiter.
Neptune
Is the eighth planet and the farthest planet from the Sun in our Solar System.
Pluto
Is the second most massive known dwarf planet in the Solar System and the tenth most massive body observed directly orbiting the Sun.
Comet
Is an icy small Solar System body that, when close enough to the Sun,displays a visible coma and sometimes also a tail.
Meteor
Is a rock that breaks off of another rock in space and then falls on to Earth's surface.
Meteorite
Is a natural object originating in outer space that survives impact with the Earth's surface.
Asteroid
A small rock body orbiting the sun.
