- The spark was the assassination of Arch Duke Franz Ferdinand on June 1914

- The Germans attack France through Belgium


- So the French are defeated before Russia can fully mobilise their army




- Therefore, (theoretically) Germany won't have to fight on two fronts at the same time

The nature of fighting turned from short battles with only thousands of soldiers, to yearly long battles with well over millions of people fighting.

Why we fought: The battle at Gallipoli was to try destroy allies of Germany to stop the stalemate at the Western Front.
