Who wrote the Song of Songs?
Unknown for sure, as it was not necessarily written by Solomon himself. Christiansen believes that it was Solomon’s first wife, who was Egyptian.
When was the Song written?
Either during the time of Solomon, or after Solomon. The date is really unknown

Must have been written before the split of the kingdom because of the mention of Tirzah.
What does the title “Song of Songs” mean?
Highest or best song.
On what day is this book read?
During Passover
Can you briefly discuss the following ways of interpreting the Song:
Love Song Collection;
Wedding Feast;
Cultic Rite;
Dramatic 2-person;
Dramatic 3-person;
Dream-Sequence
Love song collection:
a bunch of love songs put together.
Wedding Feast:
7 day feast songs

Very dirty and nasty. not just explicit sexually but really gross
Dramatic: 2-person
The beloved and Lover
3-person
Another man into the picture, a shepherd. A love triangle between woman, man and shepherd
Dream-Sequence
It is just a dream that the woman desires love
What is the import of Tirzah and Jerusalem being mentioned together in the book?
When Tirza is mentioned in the book it is spoken of as a beautiful place, which it was before the kingdom divided. In this sense it is proof that the book was written before the divided kingdom.
During which feast was the Song read?
The Passover
What is important or unique about the feast?
40 years in desert = no passover, no circumcision. Reading this at Passover connects with circumcision, covenant. Sexual love, coming under covenant. Christ wants you, and you should want Him. desire.
What phrase recurs throughout the Song?
“Do not arouse or awaken love until it so desires”
What are the different interpretations of that phrase?
If you take Christiansen’s approach that the book was written by Solomon’s first wife and see the book and being an expression of her loneliness and pain then this phrase seems like a warning...because she ‘awakened love’ too early she is in an unhappy marriage and cannot get out despite the fact that she is not getting what she needs.
