They are basically black water pipes inside a glass box. The glass lets heat and light in from Sun. This is absorbed and heats up water.

Use a curved mirror to focus Sun's light and heat. Slow and bulky though.

Use wave converters on coast. Up and down motion of wave can drive a generator. Kinetic energy of waves converted into electrical.
