What view do feminists take?
A conflict view, however the extent depends on the type of feminist you are.
Liberal Feminism.
They believe that equal rights are slowly being achieved, therefore taking a 'march of progress' view.
Marxist Feminism.
They argue that capitalism is the main cause of patriarchy as they reproduce the labour force, absorb men's frustration and are the reserve army of cheap labour. Therefore they believe that the family should be abolished to abolish patriarchy.
Radical Feminist.
They believe that men dominate women through domestic violence, or at least the threat of it, and that men benefit from women's domestic labour and sexual services. They believe in complete segregation from men and political lesbianism.
Difference Feminism.
Argues that not all women feel the same brunt of patriarchy i.e. black women feel a need for family as it is a support group against racism.
