John White

A artist from England who illustrated pictures of Roanoke. He then led the second group to Roanoke and had a daughter named Virginia Dare. He returned to England for supplies, but had to wait almost 3 years to return cause of the war between Spain and England. When he returned to find his colonists, him and his colonist were never see again.

James Oglethorpe

He received a charter from King George the second so debtors,poor, and criminals could have a fresh start. He built the town of Savannah and a couple forts to block out Spanish attacks.The colony didn't like his rules, so a frustrated man gave it back to the king in 1751

He was given the right to claim land in North America. He sent scouts who founded Roanoke. He sent settlers to Roanoke twice.

Captain John Smith

A 27-year old Captain who helped Jamestown colony survive. He built ties with Powhatan people and got food. He made the settlers work. He got injured and returned to England. The Powhatan stopped providing food. This was called ''the starving time'' (1609-1610)
