A Riding

An electoral district in Canada.

A voting district with an elected representative.

Popular Vote

Majority of the total votes cast in an election, which is different from the total seats won in an election.

Political Party

A group with a similar political opinion and aim.

Majority Government

A government that has been voted in to office and has a majority number of seats in the Parliament.

Minority Government

A government that is voted into office but does not have the majority number of seats. It needs the support of at least one other party to become a majority.

Bill

A draft of a proposed law presented to the parliament for discussion.

Law

A rule made by the government of a city, state, country ect.

Royal Assent

The final stage of the Legislative process in which a bill is passed and becomes a law. This step is only a tradition; the Crown does not use its power to decline a bill.
