There were not many trees and plants growing. Climate was was hot and dry. They were surrounded by caves and canyons, rocks

Houses had many floors and rooms. built against canyons walls or in caves. Usually no entrance on first floor. People climbed ladders to the roof and entered from there. If under attack, pulled ladders up.
