The tendency to believe that things happen because we control them vs. believing that good and bad outcomes are out of our control
Perceived Control
The belief that we can influence our environment in ways that determine whether we experience positive or neg. outcomes; can reduce stress
self-efficacy
the belief in one’s ability to carry out specific actions that produce desired outcomes; decreases stress level
Learned Helplessness
- the state of pessimism that attributing a neg. event to stable, internal, and global factors
