-Drowsiness, nausea/vomiting, headache, loss of consciousness, loss of reflexes, seizures, coma, death.

Medical Treatments for Mental Illness:

-Chemotherapy- involves treating the patient with a variety of drugs, ranging from mild tranquilizers to anti-depressants and anti-psychotics agents.
-Shock Treatment- was used in forcive and excessive ways a few decades ago -Both of these treatments are applied to only the most severe mental illnesses, such as, schizophrenia and manic depression. |

Access to Mental Health Care:

-Public institutions do not offer as good of treatment for people as those who are in private care; mostly due to a lack of funding, thus causing a two-class mental-health system

-Psychotherapy- helps the patient understand the underlying cause for their problem; developed by Sigmund Freud; seeks to discover the unconscious motives for one’s actions. Groups including this type of treatment:
-Alcoholics Anonymous -Gamblers Anonymous -Over-eaters Anonymous -Hypnosis- can help the patient recall deeply repressed, but significant memories that may be blocking their progress towards understanding and dealing with their problem. |
