Dilation and curettage
Vaginal procedure in which the cervical canal is stretched enough to admit passage of an instrument called a currete. The endometrium of the uterus is scraped with the curette to empty the uterine contents or to obtain tissue for examination
Early postpartum hemorrhage
Early acute of primary 24 hrs from birth ,excessive bleeding after childbirth; traditionally defined as a loss of 500 ml or more after vaginal delivery
Hematoma
Collection of blood in the tissue. A bruise or blood tumor

Mastitis
Infection in a breast usually confined to a milk duct. Characterized by influenza-like symptoms and redness and tenderness in the affected breast
Postpartum blues
Letdown feeling accompanied by irritability and anxiety, which usually begins 2 – 3 days after giving birth and disappears within a week or two Sometimes called the “baby blues”
Postpartum depression
Depression occurring within 6 months of childbirth, lasting longer than 2 weeks, characterized by a variety of symptoms that interfere with ADLs and care of the baby
Postpartum hemorrhage
Excessive bleeding after childbirth, a loss of 500ml or more after childbirth
Puerperal infection
Infection of the pelvic organs during the postbirth period. "childbed" fever
Pulmonary embolism
Complications of DVT, when part of a bloodclot dislodges and is carried to the pulmonary artery where it occludes the vessel and obstructs blood flow in the lungs
Postpartum psychosis
Symptoms begin as postpartum blues or depression, but are characterized by a break with reality. Delusions, hallucinations, panic, confusion, delirium occur
Subinvolution
Failure of the uterus to reduce to its normal size
Superficial venous thrombosis
Involvement of the superficial saphenous venous system with a formation of a blood clot
