The time and place of a story
Setting
The first stage of the plot; Introduces the setting and some of the characters

Conclusion; The conflict is fixed
Resolution
Events after the climax but before the resolution of the ending of the story
Falling Action
Events before the climax; The conflict is introduced
Rising Action
The turning point; the most dramatic moment
Climax
The meaning or message of the story
Theme
Problems; the struggles between two forces
Conflict
The struggle within a character (choices or fears)
Internal Conflict
Struggle against another character, idea, or organization
External Conflict
An object or action that stands for something else; Something that has a deeper meaning
Symbol
Actions, words, or thoughts that give information about a character
Characterization
Main character (often the “good guy”)
Protagonist
Character in a conflict with the main character (often the “bad guy”)
Antagonist
The feeling or atmosphere in the story
Mood
Who tells the story (1st = I, 3rd = he or she)
Point of View
Person who tells the story
Narrator
Hints of what is to come
Foreshadowing
Something that causes a person to act in a certain way, do a certain thing, etc.; incentive.
Motive
