Impetigo

What kind of skin lesion?
Erythematous macules that progress to pustules (pus) which may rupture resulting in erosions and dry, crusted, honey colored serum

Necrotizing fasciitis
What is Necrotizing fasciitis
necrosis of subQ tissues due to infection with anaerobic flesh eating bacteria
Why/how do anerobic flesh eating bacteria cause necrotizing fasciitis?
They produce CO2 (gas) which leads to gas within the skin (can palpate)
What is gas within the skin called?
Crepitus
Tx for necrotizing fasciitis?
SURGICAL EMERGENCY!
Staphyloccocal Scalded skin syndrome
sloughing of skin due to infection by a specific types S aureus (exfoliative A and B toxins)

red rash and fever; significant skin loss
What do the toxins in the S.aureus do in Staph Scalded skin syndrome?
Toxins result in epidermolysis (separation of the layers) of the Stratum granulosum
