Cell Membrane

The cell membrane surronds the cell and is soft and flexible.

It controls the movement of materials, like water and waste, in and out of the cell.

Cytoplasm

Cytoplasm is the jelly like "soup" that fills most of the cell.

Other cell parts float in the cytoplasm.

Nucleus

The nucleus is the "brain" of the cell.

It controls what the cell does, and tells the parts what to do.

Vacuoles

The cell stores things like food and waste in the vacuoles.

Mitochondria

The "mighty" mitochondria is the "power house" of the cell.

It makes the power or energy that the cell needs.

Cell Wall

Only plant cells have cell walls.

The cell wall is an extra rigid (firm) outer covering for a plant cell.

It gives the cell a boxy shape.

Chloroplasts

The chloroplasts make the food for the plant cell.

Chlorophyll inside the chloroplasts capture the energy in sunlight to make the food, which is called glucose.
