Pontiac'sWar


A rebellion by Indians influenced by Neolin and Pontiac during thespring and summer of 1763, intending to drive the British off theirland.

TheEmbargo Act of 1807


This law prohibited vessels from leaving American ports forforeign ports. Technically, it prohibited only exports, but itspractical effect was to stop imports as well, for few foreign shipswould venture into American ports if they had to leave without cargo.


Andrew Jackson


American general, and later President, who was known for hisferocity as an Indian fighter. He and his men defeated the British inthe Battle of New Orleans.


JohnQuincy Adams


The Secretary of State under James Monroe who helped strengthen tieswith Great Britain. He was the son of President John Adams, and hebecame the President in 1825.
