Research Variables
Independent Variable: The independent variable in this study is juvenile delinquency. Juvenile delinquency is most important to the researcher because the researcher is trying to comprehend the cause of juvenile delinquency and if it is in fact caused by the juveniles being raised in single family households.
Dependent Variable: The dependent variable is single family households.
Research Methods
This research sheds light on the factors that previous writers and researchers attribute to the commission of delinquency in single family households. The purpose of understanding this research was satisfying the fascination to see what factors are attributed to delinquency in single family households.
METHOD USED: CONTENT ANALYSIS
HYPOTHESIS: The hypothesis of this research was to describe how children in single family households are more likely to be delinquents, as opposed to those who live in traditional households.
Factors that can cause delinquency
EDUCATION,
LACK OF SUPERVISION,
POOR PARENTAL SKILLS, and
NEIGHBORHOOD ENVIRONMENT
ARE ALL LINKS TO DELIQUENCY IN SINGLE FAMILY HOUSEHOLDS.
The Problem
The Delinquency rate in single family households is becoming a subject of much controversy in the U.S. This study examined the likelihood that children from single parent households are more likely to be delinquents than those children from traditional households. The reasons for these being, poor parenting skills, lack of supervision, bad neighborhoods, sub standard education, economic challenges and lack of positive behavior reinforcement in the household.
Methods used in this research
Participants:The researcher conducted this research on the campus of Bethune Cookman University, a historically black university in Daytona Beach Florida. The Researcher randomly selected forty students at Bethune Cookman University ages ranging from seventeen to twenty five years of age. These participants were a mixture of all races and ethnic backgrounds.

Research questions and Instrument:The researcher used a questionnaire to conduct this research. There were four questions in the questionnaire and each participant answered these questions anonymously. The research questions for this study are as follow: What effects does single family households have on juveniles? Who is affected most when it comes to juvenile delinquency, the parents, the child, or society? Can juvenile delinquency be prevented? If so, how can this phenomenon be prevented?
Methods used in this research
Procedure: The researcher handed out forty questionnaire to random students at Bethune Cookman University. After handing out the questionnaires and having the participants to complete the questionnaires, the researcher examined and compared the information received from the survey results and the information gathered from various credible online sources and books used in this study.

Limitations: The limitations that the researcher encountered was the lack of time to conduct the research and also due to the fact that researcher conducted the research only on the Bethune Cookman University’s campus, the results reflected only the views and opinions of students at Bethune Cookman University and not the general public.
Attachment
If a juvenile is attached to positive influences that juvenile is more likely to do positive things. If that juvenile is being influenced by negative things the juvenile will more than likely do negative things. The reason for this is, the pull or attachment the juvenile has will have the greatest pull or influence on that juvenile’s mindset.
Commitment
. If the juvenile is committed to something, that juvenile will have zeal or effort to remain dedicated to that specific amusement or lifestyle. Commitment plays a major role in the juvenile’s interest.
