Broadening |
Meaning of the words broadens so the old meaning is retained and gains an added meaning. For e.g. wicked means evil but in modern slang means superb |

Narrowing |
When a word becomes more specific in it's meaning. For e.g. meat originally indicates food in general not just animal flesh. Apple indicates all fruit. |

Amelioration |
When the change over time gives the word a positive meaning. E.g. pretty once meant sly now it means attractive. |

Pejoration |
The change in the words meaning is negative. E.g. cowboy now mean dishonesty or incompetence. |

Weakening |
Words losing its original force. E.g. soon now means in the near future but used to mean immediately. |
