Broadening

Meaning of the words broadens so the old meaning is retained and gains an added meaning. For e.g. wicked means evil but in modern slang means superb

Narrowing

When a word becomes more specific in it's meaning. For e.g. meat originally indicates food in general not just animal flesh. Apple indicates all fruit.

Amelioration

When the change over time gives the word a positive meaning. E.g. pretty once meant sly now it means attractive.

Pejoration

The change in the words meaning is negative. E.g. cowboy now mean dishonesty or incompetence.

Weakening

Words losing its original force. E.g. soon now means in the near future but used to mean immediately.
