How much soy protein should I incorporate into my diet?

FDA recommends
http://www.seapointfarms.com/faq.asp
The Food and Drug Administration states that: "25 grams of soy protein a day as part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol may reduce the risk of heart disease". By serving soy-based protein, you can help lower your family's cholesterol level. Seapoint Farms can help with delicious Edamame based products that the entire family will enjoy!
Why does your packaging say Non-GMO and what is that?

http://www.seapointfarms.com/faq.asp
Non-GMO indicates that we do not genetically alter or modify the seed or structure of our beans. GMO is the process of copying a gene from one living organism (bacteria, plant, or animal) and adding it to another living organism using biotechnological methods. Genes are the instructions all living things use to build and maintain their cells. Adding a new gene(GMO) to a crop may give it a trait that is useful to growers and consumers, creating plants that are more resistant to insects and disease, that simplify weed control, or that produce fruits with longer shelf life. Since there is not enough research on the long term effects of GMO's, Seapoint Farms has taken a position of avoiding any GMO's in all of our Edamame.
The Seapoint Farms Story

http://www.seapointfarms.com/aboutus.asp
Seapoint Farms is the largest importer and manufacturer of edamame products in the United States, offering high quality, good tasting and convenient edamame vegetable products and snacks.

Seapoint Farms began in 1996 as the first American company to pioneer edamame into the American supermarkets and health food stores. Seapoint Farms has been instrumental in the public’s early education and awareness about the health benefits of edamame. The Seapoint Farms brand has gained national success and is now the leading brand of edamame in Supermarkets throughout the U.S.

When the FDA concluded in 1999 that foods containing soy protein included in a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease by lowering blood cholesterol levels, Seapoint Farms became a vehicle for bringing soy's health benefits to consumers in great vegetable options.

In January 2007, Seapoint Farms signed a multi-year licensing agreement with Nickelodeon/Viacom and created an all new line of Thaw and Serve – Organic Kid’s packs of edamame with Dora the Explorer shelled edamame and SpongeBob SquarePants edamame pods. Seapoint Farms believes that a great and healthy future for our children begins with eating the right way from the very start!

Seapoint Farms uses only non-GMO (non-genetically modified organism) soybeans. Seapoint Farms products retain their naturally-occurring levels of healthful isoflavones and include the same soy protein proven to reduce the risk of heart disease by lowering blood cholesterol.

Seapoint Farms’ mission is to provide all natural, delicious and convenient edamame food products that make it easy to incorporate the benefits of soy in your everyday diet.

Health Benefits

FDA
http://www.seapointfarms.com/page.asp?page=heart%20healthy
October 26, 1999 - The FDA makes a new health claim! "25 grams of Soy Protein a day, as part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol, may reduce the risk of heart disease."

Seapoint Farms Edamame Soybeans:

* Contains Isoflavones, phyto (plant based) estrogens. These Isoflavones are also antioxidants and found only in soy. Just a 1/2 cup serving of Seapoint Farms Edamame contains 35mg of Isoflavones (a recommended serving to obtain the benefits of soy is 25 to 40mg per day).
* Contains antioxidants, compounds that protect cells from damage caused by unstable oxygen molecules.
* Are rich in natural beta carotene, which converts to vitamin A in the body.
* Contains peptides (chains of amino acids), which has shown to boost the immune system, helping the
body fight disease.

* Contains no trans fats

Health researchers have long noted that Asian countries, where soyfoods have been a staple part of the diet for centuries, show lower rates of heart disease, breast cancer and menopausal symptoms than the US.
Heart Disease: Soy protein reduces cholesterol.

http://www.seapointfarms.com/page.asp?page=heart%20healthy
A multi-study analysis published in the New England Journal of Medicine (August 3, 1995) concluded that soy protein reduces serum cholesterol in people with moderately high to high cholesterol. A consumption of 47 grams of soy protein per day lowered total cholesterol by 9% in the moderately high group and 20% in the high group. Even better, soy protein lowered the LDL or "bad" cholesterol but not the HDL or "good" cholesterol. Heart disease is the leading cause of death among American women.
Osteoporosis: Soy rebuilds lost bone density.

http://www.seapointfarms.com/page.asp?page=heart%20healthy
Research performed at the University of Illinois and Monash Medical in Australia showed that consumption of soyfoods over a six-month period increased bone density. Soy's estrogenic effect may be the responsible factor for this claim.
Breast Cancer and Menopausal Symptoms:
http://www.seapointfarms.com/page.asp?page=heart%20healthy
Women with high levels of vitamin A show a reduction in breast malignancies, "hot flashes," and "night sweats," compared to women with lower vitamin A intake. Studies have shown menopause symptoms are almost immediately responsive to isoflavones, often within weeks of beginning soy protein consumption.
Men Also Benefit From Soy:

http://www.seapointfarms.com/page.asp?page=heart%20healthy
Women aren't the only beneficiaries of soy isoflavones. These remarkable nutrients may also reduce the risk of prostate cancer in men. Japanese men consume substantially more soy than Western men do, and their blood levels of isoflavones are up to 110 times richer in these nutrients. Studies show that genistein inhibits the growth of tumors dependent on male hormones.. According to Herman Adlercreutz, MD, of the University of Helsinki, Finland, the high lifelong isoflavone levels found in Japanese men may account for their relatively low risk of death from prostate cancer. How do isoflavones help men? According to Wing-Ming Keung, Ph.D., of the Harvard Medical School, Cambridge, MA, these nutrients inhibit the activity of enzymes involved in the breakdown of steroid hormones, including testosterone.
